Community College Association
Kern Community College District
Welcome to the Kern Community College District Community College Association (KCCD/CCA) web site. KCCD/CCA is the faculty union responsible for negotiating working conditions and representing all faculty (full-time and part-time) teaching in the Kern Community College District.
You can find information about health care plans and applications for CCA membership on the Resources page of this web site.
You can find information about the Association's governance structure on the Governance page. Information about current contract negotiations and sunshine proposals is on our Contract and Proposals page.
California's community colleges are facing difficult times as California’s budget difficulties trickle down to the citizens of the state. KCCD is no exception and will have to make some very difficult decisions during this time.
KCCD/CCA is committed to working to protect faculty interests. We know that as faculty, you place high value on the quality of the programs you provide students, as well as the level of job security, wages and benefits you receive. Faculty salaries matter, and our KCCD/CCA representatives are working hard to maintain the same high quality of compensation you have received over the last few years as you work hard to maintain the same high quality of education your students have come to expect.
If you are not currently a member of KCCD/CCA, we encourage you to contact your College Chair about joining the Association. You can also visit the Community College Assocaistion (CCA) website at cca4me.org and its "Our Labor Partners" page. All KCCD full- and part-time faculty are included in the KCCD/CCA bargaining unit and covered by the Association's collective bargaining agreement (contract) negotiated between KCCD/CCA and the District and are entitled to representation by KCCD/CCA grievance officers if there is a workplace complaint or employer discipline matter. Only KCCD/CCA members, however, may vote to ratify the bargaining agreement, and only KCCD/CCA members are entitled to free legal representation by CTA lawyers in cases of employer discipline or termination. There are a host of other benefits available to members, as well, such as automatic liability insurance and group rates on disability, home, and auto insurance. If you sign up for disability insurance within 90 days of becoming employed by the District, you cannot be disqualified. Applications for CCA membership for both full-time and adjunct faculty are available on the Resources page of this web site.
In an effort to continue successfully fighting attacks on education in California, CTA is asking members for a voluntary contribution of $20 a year to help fund CTA advocacy efforts and to support the CTA Foundation for Teaching and Learning. Members are automatically enrolled in the default allocation of $10 to support CTA advocacy efforts and $10 to the CTA Foundation for Teaching and Learning. No one is required to contribute. If you wish to opt out, you must complete the Voluntary Dues Change Form. You may email firstname.lastname@example.org if you do not know your KCCD/CCA member number.
